Nestled in the natural landscape of Ganghwa, endowed with breathtaking scenery, Haeden Museum showcases not only the works of globally renowned contemporary artists such as Picasso, Chagall, Arman, Cesar, Francis Bacon, Joan Miro, Fernando Botero, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, Robert Rauschenberg, Yoshitomo Nara, Jeff Koons, and Christo, but also features high-quality creations by well-known Korean artists including Nam June Paik, Jang Ucchin, Lee Eungro, Kim Hwanki, Lee Ufan, Park Soebo, Kim Changryul, Lee Kangso, Kim Jonghak, Jeon Kwangyoung, Ha Jonghyun, Kang Ikjoong, Kim Dongyoo, among others. Being a private art museum, it has gained acclaim as a premium multi-cultural facility, offering a harmonious blend of modern architecture, a top-tier contemporary art collection, exhibitions, educational spaces, and corporate training facilities, including an education center, seminar rooms, and an outdoor sculpture garden.

 

The architectural concept of Haeden Museum centers around harmony and communication with nature. The building, designed to flow naturally with the sloping terrain, comprises three open spaces encountered along the course of movement. Internally, the structure is a work of art itself, designed to bring in light and openness, while externally, it cuts through the ground and sculpts the sky. The mirrored garden, adorned with Igor Mitoraj's masterpiece "Torso di Ikaro," serves as a symbol of the museum, projecting onto the outdoor mirror wall amidst the beauty of nature. Additionally, the sunken garden, bathed in sunlight and harmonizing with nature, features Bernar Venet's artwork "Indeterminate Line," creating a harmonious blend of nature and contemporary art. The outdoor garden at Haeden Museum serves as an optimal space for healing concerts where nature, modern art, and music converge, providing a place to share the scenic beauty and bird songs naturally.

 

Haeden Museum passionately supports 

cultural education, accommodating lectures, performances, creative activities, and more.

 

Established in spring 2013, Haeden Museum continues to unfold various activities. Leveraging the spatial characteristics of the museum, which combines the beauty of Ganghwa's nature with artistic architecture, Haeden Museum aims to be an approachable and enjoyable art space, breaking away from the perception of museums as distant and unfamiliar. The museum not only offers exhibitions but also prepares educational programs to support students' creative activities. Through teacher training and workshops, Haeden Museum positively supports cultural and arts education. The newly expanded education center, equipped with soundproofing, a screen, and a projector, accommodates a 144-seat auditorium for large lectures, performances, creative activities, and can be divided into two classrooms using sliding doors. With the auditorium in the education center and seminar rooms within the exhibition hall (92 seats, projector, screen, sound system), the total capacity for events is over 250 people. Corporate training, youth groups, and adult group workshops are possible, and special lectures can be provided upon request. Rental options are also available.

 

In 2014, Haeden Museum received the Korea Creative Management Award.

 

PhD. Choonsoon Park, the founder and director of Haeden Museum is dedicated to promoting cultural and artistic outreach in the local community, breaking stereotypes about inaccessible art museums, and lowering the threshold for everyone to comfortably appreciate and understand artworks. Recognized for her contributions to creating a beautiful space in nature that serves not only as a cultural and artistic education hub but also as a new concept space for sharing, understanding, and communication, Director Choonsoon Park was awarded the 2014 Korea Creative Management Award, organized by the Hankook Newspaper and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Future.

Selected as “2013 Korean Institute of Architects Best 7 of the year”

 

The Korean Institute of Architects Best 7 of the year” is the most prestigious architectural award in Korea, selected by the Korean Institute of Architects. It recognizes seven buildings completed in Korea during the year that significantly contribute to the creation of the human living environment and demonstrate high architectural achievement. Haeden Museum was designed by architect Bae Dae-yong. It has received acclaim for its exceptional harmony with the surrounding natural landscape and thoughtful consideration for communication with the external environment.

 

The Haeden Museum is a project aimed at resembling the phenomena of nature.

 

Three open spaces encountered along the course of movement, from the naturally flowing entrance on the sloping terrain to the flow of pathways, create internally a space filled with light and openness, while externally, they carve through the land and sculpt the sky. In other words, the forms inherent in the land directly support the functions of the architecture. The existence of the architecture originates from nature itself. Rather than rising up in competition, it is a presence that lowers itself, adapting to the surrounding environment and the terrain, discovering the beauty of nature by lowering and reflecting upon it. This is the essence of "Haeden Museum."
